History of  St.James Lutheran Church

St. James was named after James, the son of Zebedee, he was born in Galilee and like his brothers John and the apostles Peter and Andrew, was a fisherman.

We have been an active church in this Jackson, Michigan community since
Dec.10, 1961.
Next was Pastor Len Dahlgren.  He was installed at St. James on Dec. 16, 1984 and served until December 31, 1996.

After Pastor Dahlgren a web page was begun.  This first edition was in Sept. 1997.  Since that time it has undergone numerous changes.

Pastor Dahlgren went on to serve at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in 4085 Lutheran Church Rd., Kent City, Mi.
We have been an active Church in this community since Dec.10, 1961. From the time that our first Pastor  August Mueller organized a group of people looking for a church..  St. James first met in the Cascades Clubhouse until the current church was built in 1965.  Pastor Gus Mueller and his family served St. James until January 31, 1967.
Carl Franklin was our next Pastor from May 18, 1967 until Feb 28, 1976. During his time at St. James we had 3 Interns or Vicars.
Edward Wilson was Pastor from June 15, 1976 until March 28, 1978.
He was followed by Rev. John P. Jack who served St. James from Sept. 1, 1978 until June 3, 1984.
Pastor Dave Brobston served St. James from November 30, 1997 until The April 15, 2007.  Pastor Dave Brobston went on to serve St. John's Lutheran Church, at 671 Clinton, in Defiance, Ohio.      www.stjohndefiance.com   Pastor Brobston celebrated 10 years in the ministry, with his family, on May 29, 2003, and we had a special service and dinner in their honor.  Pastor Dave as we foundly called him has also made another contribution to the community.  He seved as a Fire Chaplin.  He went on severe fire or accident calls which would require support for involved parties.

One of the changes that occured in our property since Pastor Brobston came to us is there is now a Columburium which was situated on the South side of our Building.  We also purchased the St. James Place (used to house Vicars) during his time with us.

We also had a ministry of serving the Lutheran Church by having (Vicars) interns from the seminary spend a year with us.  We have had 7 Vicars under Pastor Dave.  See information on them on the
Vicars Page.
